This is my “512kbps” ADSL performance today:

It really is high time the broadband ecosystem was beefed up. Forget offering any “telco2.0” or ASP type services over this.

Yeah, I think Amobia has coverage there, we did a survey for Tim.

or "your DSL is on Valium? Tired of Prozac? ... to hell with the Net, try timeshare" ;)
I'm in a resi area (smallholdings with more horses/m^2 than PC's!), so it is weird that speed drops during day. But, yes... I'm sure the oversell is behind it all. Which is why I want better quality DSL, not just lower prices.
got an Amobia tower out this way Joe?
maybe I can get Tim S to do support for me instead of me for him... hah!

I can see the Telkom ad.. "ADSL on valium, for a smile on Botox".
Telkom talk about a 16:1 overselling ratio on the ADSL last mile.. and I think that's more like a "best case".. this explains your modem speed graph.

Blegh... Maybe not the same issues that some other folks got. Ag, worth a try anyways!
I dunno about your foxy crashing! I don't use Windows much these days, but I had a similar experience once with Flock (which is nothing other than the fox on steriods).

eina! tried that Stii and f@#$%d up my connectivity completely! ;>
Have posed your suggestion to a few of our network propellorheads - maybe they can advise. Unless Joe (who knows far too much about what lies under the hood of IP than is good for him) gets there first!
I just know that DSL flies at times and at times is a complete and utter dog.
btw - I dig FireFox, but every time I fire it up the first time, it hangs. I nuke the process and from then on... no sweat. Can't find any ref on their knowledgebase and have yet to report it. Any ideas?

Not sure if this would help at all, but tons of people have been complaining and this sorted most of their issues:
