This was indeed the European (Hirundo rustica) Peter, the kinematic data for the African swallows (Hirundo domicella and Hirundo spilodera) apparently being in short supply!

Now the question that my brother asked via email was "what exactly is a laden swallow?". Is it one that has not (swallowed that is), one that has recently evacuated its bowels, or one that is merely carrying mud to its nest? :) Mr Corum is not clear on this point.

Ahh! but was it an African or a European swallow?

:)

The Holy Grail, an old favorite.
